The authors' stated objective is to provide accessible account of the biology of membracids, and to stimulate and facilitate their study. Surely they hav succeeded at this, and more. The book is a world class, careful, extensive and scholarly summary of what is known about the Neotropical species of insects in the treehopper family, Membracidae. Because membracids have such distinctive colors and forms, the abundant photos, drawings, and keys allow this book to also serve as a useful field guide. Finally, because the colors and forms of membracids are so levely and exotic, and because of the high quality of the photos, this book is an aesthetic treasure. One meaningful measure of culture is the understanding product of three young, "local" entomologists speaks well of Costa Rica, and of its future. (Book review by William G.
